I know Terry has requested we allow this but from what I've read not only is the named guy hard but he allows special units to be taken as core which kinda breaks the whole point of us attempting to bring points up in a reasonable mitigated fashion.
I got royally hammered by a named hero last week and yes he was expensive but he almost singlehandedly annihilated a cavalry charge. My opponent didn't know about the no named stuff so I said ok...more fool me.
I have no issue at 2500 points as we declared a full roster all along at that points level.

I'm inclined to agree, although at 2000pts I'd also feel that people should know enough about the game to not cheese the lists up too much. That said, Having Heinrich Kimmler as a lord is pretty damn good.

I honestly don't see a reason why not.below 2k,yes some of them may get nasty but this is a troop orientated rule system using 8th,the named characters have all been toned down, bar a few.you spend points on characters and you're fielding less troops. I have Nagash here and I would love to see him on a battlefield!! (haha calm down,i know you's don't allow End Times)

I think the issue with it is that some Lords and named characters bring a lot of different stuff to the table that can really screw other players, and it also incites cheese building, which many at the club are wishing to avoid. It starts off all well and good, but then before you know it the power creep arrives and people start bringing more powerful stuff to combat the powerful stuff, etc.
I'd love to use Nagash and End times, but at the same time I feel it has become too much like 40k - Titans in 1500pt games. The 25% limit is what drew me to WHFB as it helps scale the big beasties and general powerful stuff until the armies are large enough for them to really have a reason to even appear. I can't see why Nagash would decide to lead a skirmish against the Empire without his huge armies behind him!

I was only joking about bringing Nagash ;-p
I'm not actually going to field any,I find it more entertaining to come up with your own,I'm just not against anyone fielding one of their own...though opponents need to have advance knowledge to prevent 2 Krell's appearing etc. Normally we fight 2.5-3k ish size and I've yet to see any that have swung a battle themselves tbh.
For what its worth that's why I jacked in 40k...

Yeah, I do play 40k still, but not much. When I do, I run Knights, just really for the shiny value than them actually doing anything. In larger battles, I don't see any issue in it, it's when say, we have a 1500pt game and I bring Kimmler. For his points at that level he's insanely good, and it's a bit unfair to introduce them at that sort of point level. Even 2k is a bit of a stretch, as most 'normal' sized games are 2400+ if I recall correctly.
